The Second Caravan “Risas contra Muros” (Laughter Against Walls) held a parade to invite and accompany the refugees to enjoy El Circo de la Libertad (The Circus of Freedom)
The group alarms about the situation of defencelessness of around five hundred children and the disappearance of over one hundred youngsters
The Jungle (Calais-France), April 1st, 2016. The South area of the Calais refugee camp, known as The Jungle, has been the site chosen for the first performances of Pallasos en Rebeldía in this camp in which over 3,500 people live badly. “It hurts walking around here after the spoliation the authorities have left behind with their abuses of force and demolitions. They have torn apart the hope of these people that only wish to get to the United Kingdom to meet their families”, Iván Prado, the speaker of Pallasos en Rebeldía, explains.
The international artistic/solidarity group, who arrived last night in their Second Caravan “Risas contra Muros” to denounce the EU’s migration policies, gave the first performance of their show “El Circo de La Libertad” this morning. Around noon, they held a happy parade from the North area, where all the migrants are currently grouped together, to invite and accompany them to the South area, where they have installed the circus portico amidst the site flattened by the excavators that continued to work whilst over one hundred children and adults enjoyed the circus, clown and magic shows, hosted by the actress Ooona Chaplin, the granddaughter of the legendary Charles Chaplin. “It makes us happy to create smiles and laughter amidst the desolation in which they have grown accustomed to live, a very different audience from that in Idomeni where the migrants still had hope and happiness in their eyes”, Prado explains, “The show `El Circo de La Libertad´ (The Circus of Freedom) is inspired by the philosophy of the freedom of the circus and the clowns, as nomads from time immemorial that bring laughter and happiness all around the world, borderless, living together and sharing with all the cultures of this planet”.
Media Oblivion and Dangers for Minors
Pallasos en Rebeldía denounce the fact that the media focus has been taken away from the “Jungle” in which thousands of refugees remain, after last week’s evacuation, blocked by the governments of France and the United Kingdom and living in precarious sheds made with wooden boards and covered with plastic to shelter themselves from the cold and rain. Furthermore, they alert there is a high amount of children who are alone in this camp, without their relatives, most of them coming from Sudan, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. “The associations of volunteers working at Calais estimate there are around five hundred boys and girls without any family protection who have arrived here alone. The disappearance of 180 youngsters has also been denounced. Europe, let’s open the borders and protect these minors from the mafia!”, Iván Prado, the speaker of Pallasos en Rebeldía, demands.
